‘Old Merchant House’, (with the red doors facing onto the harbour front) offers high-quality self-catering accommodation for visitors to Portsoy, the Moray Coast, and the Highlands, all year round, sleeping 4-7 visitors as required. Dating from 1726 the house was owned by Alexander 'Laird' Brebner, a famous smuggler, and the house is featured in many publications as well as pride of place in the local 'Salmon Bothy' museum.

 

 

With a premier position on the Historic 17th Century Portsoy Harbour front, this self-catering accommodation has stunning un-interrupted sea views from all windows overlooking the harbour. This historic house is regularly featured in photographs and publications relating to Portsoy and the harbour.

Scotland self catering accomodationThis cosy, historic house, is set over three floors. The entrance hallway is spacious, with large tiled area for wet bathing clothes or walking boots etc. Also on the ground floor there is a separate cloakroom and understairs store.

On the first floor and in the lounge area, there is a quaint wood burning stove and soft sofa's to enjoy those cosy nights by the fire, whilst listening and watching the waves lap in and out of the harbour, maybe after a hard days exploration. 

On the second floor, the three bedrooms all have period shutters and offer stunning views across the harbour and out to sea. The main bedroom has a kingsize bed and has the original 18th c. stone fireplace in the room. There is also a twin room with two single beds, plus a small double.Those staying  at Old Merchant House are able to wake up to the sound of the sea, sit up in bed, and look across the harbour as the sun rises. Guests have reported spotting dolphins from the windows on several occasions!

The house is served with full gas fired central heating, with adjustable radiators in each room, to keep our guests comfortable no matter what time of year. There is a large outside lockable store which can house surf-boards, canoes and fishing & golf equipment safely and securely.

The lounge, kitchen, and front bedrooms all  overlook the harbour and out to sea, with a stunning view, reported as the best on the harbour. There is a TV with freeview channels & DVD  with several books and childrens games available. There is a separate laundry and drying room complete with washing machine and ironing facilities as well as a large bright, fully equiped kitchen with modern appliances which can be used as a casual dining area. The large rustic and beamed bathroom has full-size bath plus a large separate shower cubicle with electric power shower. We supply fresh bed linen and towels as well as a basket of logs to get you started in the chiller months.
